Art United is not a one-man show, or a small core team leading the way, but it is more like The Burrito Project.
When I was putting together this video for Newsong, I saw how powerful this group was. A small group of taggers wanting to feed the homeless turned into a movement that spread throughout the world. There is no leader, members are anonymous, and there isn’t a central group. Each location has there own style, organization, identity, myspace page, etc… but they all sit under the same “Umbrella”. (Yes, the Rihanna song is playing in my head)
This “Umbrella” is The Burrito Project’s Cause: To feed the homeless. Art United’s “Umbrella” right now is Human Trafficking.
I really feel that UA has to be like the Burrito Project. UA has to be the Starfish, rather than the Spider. There is power in a leaderless organization. I’m hoping my brother in Washington, D.C can start a group. Maybe he’ll follow the model I’m using or maybe he has a different model that works better on the East Coast. Each group will naturally have it’s own unique flavor based on the region it is located.
One reason why I use Word Press, Facebook, Basecamp and other free software is that UA needs to be easily replicated. That’s what is going to keep it sustainable. I urge those of you, who have this tugging inside, to really take the first step and take action. It will change your life.
Scott and a group of people decided to take action and start Renewing Hearts.
“The purpose of Renewing Hearts is to provide a safe and comfortable place for those who are disadvantaged and disenfranchised to come and share their broken hearts or current crisis.”
They are a group of professional counselors that are donating their time to counsel individuals, couples and families.
Art United is not a new concept. I just repackaged it. Just as I hope someone repackages AU and make it their own.
So I invite those in the Orange County area to join us for our first AU Roundtable. For those in LA, don’t worry, your Roundtable is coming soon. And those outside of my local area, start one! See you September 2.

Thanks so much for the shout out. We are really hoping to build on the successes of organizations that have brought a lot of awareness to issues like depression, substance abuse, divorce, abuse, etc and really work to connect people with solutions. We are seeking partners to help with counseling, connections, and cash. Looking forward to seeing Art United’s future. I know you are going to do big things.
